The train displayed next to the Superdome.

Locomotive #4449 got a full FRA Annual Test right on the spot. This included a hydrostatic test to 25% over rated boiler pressure. And all with a very curious crowd looking on.

At the same time in Birmingham, Alabama (May 9th), locomotive #2101 made a test run through Bessemer after repairs and painting.

New Orleans was later the site of the 1978 and 1984 American Freedom Train Crew Reunions.
