Freedom
Bell
The Freedom
Bell was the American Legion's gift to the nation's youth and was
carried aboard one of the AFT's two showcase cars -- visible to
the public day and night.
The original
idea for the bell was to have children across the country donate
pennies towards its casting; melting the pennies down and actually
using their metal to cast the bell. The idea never got off the ground,
but the bell is still sometimes called the Children's Bell.
