Car #448

American Freedom Train Car #448 was just a diner owned by the High Iron Company until it was lettered American Freedom Train to promote the train -- and thereby earned its place on this list.

The car ran with AFT #1 on its test runs in March 1975.

After its time with the High Iron Company the former New York Central 48-seat diner (likely built as a 44-seat diner) was stored in New Orleans for many years.

Purchased by a private party in 2008 and upgraded, the car first ran with Amtrak in 2009 with reporting mark SMLX and Amtrak private car number 800612. The number was soon changed to 800448.

To Iowa Pacific around June 2014 and appeared for a time in Illinois Central chocolate and orange (a vinyl wrap).

To BNSF in 2015 and upgraded at Topeka.

In 1977 next to slumbercoach HICO 7700, which had also been lettered American Freedom Train in 1974.
