THE
1947 - 1949 FREEDOM TRAIN
U.S.
MARINES: THE TRAIN'S PROUD STAFF
The train and
its contents were guarded 24 hours a day by a hand-picked detachment
of 29 U.S. Marines who stood guard duty and interpreted the train's
precious contents to visitors. They lived and rode aboard the train.
While officially
identified as a military Honor Guard Detachment, these Marines served
as the hosts, interpretive staff, and sources of information for
thrilled and humbled visitors of all ages. Many visitors have clear
memories of the sharp appearance of the smiling Marines in their
"Dress Blues."
