David helped with the restoration of the 610 locomotive in Ft. Worth in 1975-76. This is his collection of photos from that adventure.

Former Texas & Pacific 610 torn down for restoration.

Working in the cab.

The restoration took place outdoors without the use of cranes or heavy equipment.

David recalls: "The 610 was rebuilt in Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Stock Yards -- just below the old Swift building.

We used needle guns to take off the old paint, both inside the cab and outside the train."

Wooden boards provided leverage for much of the work.

The former T&P locomotive was a 2-10-4 type (seen here as a 0-10-4).

After the run of the AFT, the locomotive worked on the Southern Railway in excursion service for five years before again retiring.
